There should be an ongoing investigation in the courts and in Congress about who are the real Latinos For Reform. This is just another tactic by republicans to silence and to marginalize the Hispanic electorate from exercising their voting rights. I want to know who the Latinos for Reform really are and who is supporting them. Fucking hypocrites, the same people that are advancing in all fronts against the Hispanic Community now claimed that they are vested in the future of Latinos. When is it going to end?

This add is skillfully design to work in two aspects while it appears as benign and in favor of the Hispanic community, it also serves as a scare tactic to those Latinos that even with their citizenship are feeling the pressures of deportation fearing the intense racially profiling that is going on in Nevada and Arizona. I truly hope that this backfires and that the entire Latino community presents a new front and declare this unconstitutional. This tactic also, even though is presented locally in Nevada can emerge all around the entire Nation. The intention is simple keep the Latinos silent and afraid.

NPR not so much for the Public than for their Party

I have posted before about NPR, but now I can validate some of my skepticism about their political programming. I listen to it constantly I am addicted to it but for a political junkie like me I've been feeling shortchanged about my fix. They have a wide variety of programs that stimulate my mind. But I have noticed that since 2008 election their coverage was less than impartial. I claimed that they are skewing their views. Now I can prove that they are doing so.

The latest is the memo sent warning any NPR staffers showing up for the John Stewart rally in Washington DC on October 30, as reported by the Huffington Post. And here are some of my other concerns. How come the memo now and not before Glen Beck’s charade?

When ever they make a reference to a political candidate they start by given air wave to the republican ones, and then they have a rebuttal from the democratic one and just when you think that the argument is settle, the republican one gets the last words. Even Christine O’Donnell gets this preferential treatment. Even though she has no substance what so ever, to a passive listener, she is right only because she has the last word and comes from NPR.

But it goes further than that. The other day while stock in traffic, I was listening to a segment in were one of Bush’s administrators came in favor of the Chambers of Commerce and their anonymous donors, so I am listening to this hoping a good come back to his BS, and their was none. The last statement I recalled was he saying it does not matter where the funds comes from, as long as the massage is of substance. Are you fucking kidding me this is coming from the mouth of one of the worst perpetrator of public interference? Is he one to validate me that I am supposed to be OK with corporations stealing our political process? Isn’t him a member of a gang that paid no attention to Wall Street yet let the market crashed to then give corporations a bail out for their failures? Should I be reaffirmed that there is no valid point to any accusations against Cross Roads and Karl Roves maneuvering?

Another issue that increased my Eyebrows is why are they getting money from an organization that is opposing our elected government like American for Prosperity who launches serious attacks on our government? Isn’t NPR supposed to stand for National Public Radio? Why are they so bested in debunking our present government?

I do not get to watch much TV therefore I am illiterate when it comes to reviewing TV shows. But Wonder Man posted this video and I had to respond.

I could not finish watching this BS. Here you have Oprah living in the “down low” asking sexual identity questions to a black man that is now comfortable with disclosing his Identity as a gay man. My problem with her assumptions is that straight versus gay are encapsulated into the same binomials as black and white, rich and poor, healthy versus sick, norm versus abnormal, right versus wrong.

Here is my problem, the trap behind gay versus straight binomial is that it proposes that sexual identity like being gay equals sexual acts, equals gender, equals sexuality. And all or those terms need to be openly discussed when dismantling the homo versus heterosexual domains.

When I was young I used to have sex with another man who got married and created a live within the so-called “norm.” On an occasion we met at a billiard bar and he popped a fag joke and I asked him, have you told your wife that we used to have sex? And his response was I have never being gay I love pussy. So I asked him how would she feel if I were to disclose to her that you got off on my rim jobs? He told me I love pussy, should I be condemned for that? To which I responded we are on a public space and you feel is OK to belittle my identity but think nothing of the fact that you enjoyed it.

Weather he is or not on the “Down low”, I do not give a shit. Because the way I see it, he having sex with me does not make him gay, perhaps horny. I must confess that he used to come to me after caressing his girlfriend for long hours in her father’s balcony. In some cases it was easy for him to get his rocks off with me than with a chick, because of fear of being expose of infidelities. He knew that I was on a disadvantage if I ever broadcasted to anyone about our sexual relationships.

And why because if I were to do so we were both going to be outcast as fags; neither one of us wanted that, especially me with a high pitch voice and a history of being called a "fag" since I was five.
He was in the army, an athlete, and a boxer. I on the other hand, hang out with the girls, dance disco, and had a ponytail. You got the picture! In my social group sexual acts were not disclosed if they were not with in the “norm.”

And this is my point! No, I do not think that all men that have sex with men are gay. No, I do not think that sexual identity is easy, especially if you are identified or belong to the fringe; which in this case can cast anyone as sick or having aids. And no, not all sexual acts can be define as procreative acts, or solely confine to couples to only perform acts of copulation. I just recently heard of a close relative of mine who is a republican, who is straight, who goes to church, and who straps a dildo to please her man. Is she and her husband gay? I choose to not care. Honestly I do not give a shit. But what I am more interested is in dissenting from the narrative of the “norm.” Sexuality, sexual acts and sexual identity are far more complex to be boxed in the straight gay domain.

And Oprah discourse in this matter is, only benefiting her pocket. She loves the surprised gasps and the laughter of her audience for her ratings. I give her a d- for attempt. Perhaps she wanted to jump in the bang wagon of the “Long” saga where millionaires have a frenzy to debunk each other. But to me is not interesting nor it gets my rocks off. Because the way I see it, with all the bucks she has, she could have hire some extra researchers to make a solid point other than the domestic framework she presented.

I was reading at the Huffington post and came across this national catastrophe. I am not a fan of Hugo Chavez, a dictatorship is a dictatorship any where, but when millions of people say yes to a democratic elected official, why then ‘"a coup d'eta?” This hit a hard core with me, because I am a civil servant, and I believe in democracy. I believe that our work is important. Teachers, Firefighters and the Military should get pay a honorable salary. But for young boys to take over just because they have guns, I’ll say that is bulling!

As much as I like Colbert, I still feel that when talking immigration laws you need to address global economy in relation to the US corporations that are shifting their work production abroad.

It is interesting to notice how the migration debate, only focuses on our national agenda. As a migrant myself, most people leave their homeland not because they want to, but because they are forced too. And trust me it is cold and hard up north.

During my college years I used to clean houses while attending Cooper Union, that in the first year alone, had me doing 21 credits per semester while other more pricelly institutions were requiring only twelve. My first semester, I was put on academic probation. When I mentioned to the panel that I was working and going to school, they all agreed that that was impossible. I love Cooper; they gave me a chance to advance. They raised my scholarship so that I did not have to work while going to school. I ended up with an award upon graduation.

And this is my point, while we can all blame the immigrants, why not focus that energy on the multi billionaire companies that are getting the tax brakes while shifting their production to Latin America, in where a 18,000 dollars a year job renders them middle class; forcing many other lives to leave their country. Forcing them to come north to farm work! You and me are not winning. Yet we pay a price and they leave their homes, while corporations here, with their trickle down mentality are only getting fatter and fatter.

Is that going to be the landscape of third world America; where Americans are going to be force to migrate while targeted because doing the menial jobs that the hosting nation does not want to perform?

The repugs argument is that we need to address salary scales for native workers, yet I do not see an agenda from their platform addressing this concern. I see more and more Sarah Palins look alike claiming they stand for regular moms, while they have shit to offer.

This is not that I am going against immigrants. I can't. But how in hell are you going to help other nations while the fat cats here are eating the mice?

After reading the "TEA PARTY TINDERBOX?" on MOTHER JONES, my level of optimism reached an all time low. I always hope that reason and conversation will always settle the grounds for prosperity. However on today’s hot climate settling two opposites sites to counter act each other, is a recipe for disaster. Specially, when they are about to meet on the same field.

Allan has always been the cheerleader on the home, yet even him sees my pessimistic side as an apocalyptic sign.

It is easy to blame the Tea Party crowd for their intolerance, but how come they are still gaining grounds, when we have Keith Olberman's national coverage?

As as dyslexic man, whenever I see him on TV, I keep hoping that he will talk to my understanding. He uses language that is foreign even to me that have a Masters Degree. I do not think that Americans are stupid, I think that the progressive media keeps ignoring that most folks are too tired to even enjoy television; let alone understand how big money is behind the Tea Party movement. Progressive Media uses language and dialogues that is shaped for the smart ones only; the elite of language; the Harvard graduates, that in some cases got us in the jam that we are today.

So how will you come to an agreement, when the information you have either comes from Glen Beck or from Keith Olberman? Shouting will be the answer, and when that fails, guns will come handy. And already Tea Baggers have the NRA, and the Second Amendment on their side.

And this is my point, if progressive people do not have the points that they can share with the opposite site, in a form that can lead to a dialogue, that dialogue will have less of a chance to happen. Progressive media has the means to do that, but they keep ignoring to enunciate a message that can override the Glen Beck and Sara Palin’s followers.

Bronson, the movie

Its a journey into the unfairness of prison. It is based on the true story of Prisoner BT1314, and how Michael Peterson supposedly became the most violent prisoner in all Britain’s Penal History.

His first crime in 1974, in which he stole a mere £26.18, landed him a sentenced to 7 years, for a robbery in which no one was hurt. For a criminal who has never killed anyone, Bronson has spent 30 out of 34 years in solitary confinement, subjected to both physical and psychological brutality, all throughout his incarceration.

The movie was skillfully crafted using first person narrative and monologues to illustrate Bronson’s attitudes against the system.

The actor playing Bronson was a fine male specimen perfect for the part.

Yet to me Bronson is just a great performance artist, who was able to master body over mind, in spite of all the cultural, political and social pressures against his time.His name was changed by his fight promoter in 1987. It had nothing to do with the actor Charles Bronson's film "Death Wish" as is usually reported in the newspapers.

He is now 55 years of age.

He has NEVER killed anyone!

After much insistence from my Hubby I just finished reading “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” by Junot Diaz.

And the novel turned me out. I know that the Caribbean is replete with political horrors, but never have I read a book that delineates how those horrors, surpass way past generations, even after their villain dictators are gone.

I new that Trujillo was a bastard, a demon or Fuku as Junot refers to. But Shit generations after his ruthless dictatorship, the dude left his damage on the lives of the Dominican Republic. A damage that even years after his death, people are still not convinced that they can’t stand up against injustice.

Junot tried to make it easy for you to understand the suffering of his people, but even when the novel is a love story, the final outcome spells out political evils and degradation.

The Feast of all Saints by Anne Rice

This summer I was emerged in the reading of “The Feast of all Saints” by Anne Rice.

Which is a provocative narrative that took place during the pre civil war in New Orleans. It’s a fictional account attesting to the lives of the “Gens of Couleur Libre,” and their struggles and decisions that shaped their history.

While reading the novel I had to reexamine my own encounters with colonialism.

I have always experienced colonialism from the assaults it inflicted against my national heritage, my sexual identity, my working class upbringing and my limited language skills. Yet I have never experienced colonial degradation from a racial context.

Growing up in Puerto Rico, never did the check box for race caused a posse on my behalf; I new that I was a white Puerto Rican man. Migrating to the states helped me face the limited access that I have due to my skin color. I was invisible to the norm that constantly render me as “the other” either because of my language or because my affections.

Having struggle through that experience, I had to relate how my experience compare to others and specially to the black community. And I saw that I still had the upper hand.

Yet having experienced being place in a insignificant status, I had to reconsider how I will go about assisting in abolishing those ideas that cast humans into a position of unimportance. How can someone be considered devalue because of their skin color?

To me any excuse to hate can infiltrate on others reasons for hating: say their place of birth, their family income, their religion, or their sexual orientation. Yet, why is it so grievous when it comes to the context of color?

It is because color is a physical manifestation unlike having an accent, in where if I do not speak I will not get easily stopped. Or when it comes to my sexual preference where if I do not engage or disclose my sexual likings no one will be so eager to cast a stone.

Race under the Anglo-European world is a screening device to exclude, to silence and to justify inequities? Inequities that can then be always justify by other incoherent reasons such as the place of birth, the sexual orientation, or the religious believes that might undermine the Anglo-European self of importance.

I do not think that Anne Rice set to unleash this debate onto the minds of her readers, but what she did instead, was to restitute a voice to those that had been silenced because of their color. She provided an alternative kaleidoscope of histories rich in humanity not only shaped by their color, but by a desire to better their lives; hence the novel of the “Gens of Couleur Libre,” in The Feast of All Saints.

Give it to my students.

As many of you know, I work in the Bronx NYC. I travel almost 56 miles each way to go to work. I get up at 3 am every morning and guess what, I love it. I wish for it to be different. I am thinking about relocating back to the City. But I love my work. I love the product and the process of my students’ ability to create. And it is not easy. The other day some of my students, actually 3 of them on a 5th grade class, when I gave them modeling clay decided that it was cool to make dildos. I freaked out and I broked, Yet I was disable to let them understand the beauty of creating beyond TV pedagogy, rap and pop culture. I have a 5th grader that scream sex for attention and I am weary that she can not see the fact that the odds are against her, and will be against her for years to come. Yet when I get to reach those that listen, I am surprised, cause they surpass my expectations. I have award winners, sensitive creative and beautifully crafted human entities that got the message. On Tuesday Parent Teacher conferencing day and night, 2 brothers from my school called me a Faggot.

As hurt as I was I went head on with the situation. It happened while I was getting my lunch on the way to a dinner. Right in front of an entire community they decided that it was OK to call me a faggot and to run to not be caught. I was enraged I wanted blood. But I knew that they were children, plus this is not the first time that I have dealt with this kind of harassment so I went head on with it.

I went to my Assistant Principal first and explained to her what took place and she recommended me to see the Principal. I went to my Principal and she was so freaking understanding, I am blessed. She told me that she was going to handle it. Plus I went public to all my co-workers. I told every one that this shit took place where they work. They all were enraged. One teacher told me this is disgraceful. We can’t tolerate this. Even one of the parents at my school called me aside and mentioned to me that she was disgusted by what happened to me. I am openly gay at school and everyone in my school had met Allan, but this was not even about that. It was not about their acceptance of my lifestyle. The educators that I work with have a deeper meaning of what it is to be fair and sympathetic. They are open, honest and have a true sense of commitment and fair practice. I love my school.

So Wednesday it was Veterans Day. Thursday, I was absent due to a doctor’s appointment. While a the doctors office I got a called from the school guidance counselor and she told me that she was fed up with those two boys but she wanted me to relate what took place to her. I told her my side of the story and she documented the case. She told me “we are calling the police. We are asking the parents to come in for a big Pow Wow.”

Friday I showed up and the Principal approached me she asked me if the reason why I was absent Thursday, was because I was still down for what had happen. I told her about my appointment and her respond was "We called the cops on them and they have an official suspension from the Department of Education. Plus the Mother is getting suited because on that day, they were on a rampage and were braking windows of some homes in the community". After feeling the pressure from the police the youngest brother told the principal “I only called him faggot once.” The Principal told him that is unacceptable in my school. Word has it, that the Principal wants to put pressure on the parents to have them transfer to another school.

I am so proud of myself for speaking up and going public on these two. I made sure that everyone knew that I know how to fight back. But Over all the best part of that Horrible Parent teacher day was that 60 parents visited me 51 signed in all of them super duper supportive. Woof I love that community I love my school.

When I was teenager, I used to go to a local theatre that every Tuesdays they will have Foreign movies. They will show Japanese movies, Swedish, French, Spanish, Chinese.

One time a woman told one of them to stop jumping from the seat to seat and jimmy pull down his pants and farded at the woman’s face. I was on the floors laughing like a hyena.

Well one time there was this film whose director I did not know his work, Pier Paolo Pasolinni. The movie called my attention right away because it was x rated. So here I went thinking of the hand job that I was going to entertain following the movie. I paid my entrance and alone I sat down to watch the most decadent perverse frightening movie of my life. Up until this day I can’t honestly say that I like the movie, but is that kind of experience that you can never erase. Imagine Caligula X version, with a more contemporary look, and ten times more perverse.

I know that a lot of the members of the queer community have lots of issues with the movie. But this was not even a movie about queer constructions. Peir Paolo Pasolinni himself was queer. He has the most wonderful collection of movies with a huge preoccupation with human sexuality. Arabian Nights, beautiful dream like movie, Canterbury tales, awesome dialogue between the fairy tales and the sexuality meant to provoke. Salo was about Fascism during Mussolini’s time and how in a corrupt society the church, the army, the law, and the government in its patriarchal formation can get away with genocide.

There is a part in the movie were one of the Main Characters, tells to a group of youngsters when they arrived that they should consider themselves dead from the moment of arrival. Recently I went back to recap some of the trailers, I was 16 years old when I saw the movie and was amazed at one of the statements the character made. He said that Fascists are the true anarchists because they a urge for power.

Not long ago Ramona had a post in where she was talking about the fringe like the birther, as anarchist and I on the other hand consider them fascists nor anarchist, but Pier Paolo Pasolini summarixed them and in one singe sentence Pasolinni was capable of mapping their trajectory. Rumor has it that Passolini was kill right after the movie debuted in retaliation against the movie. I warned you be prepared to be shocked. But in a fictional historical context the movie has great relevance.

I am having a hard time blogging

As you already know I am having a hard time blogging. I have a full time job a part time job plus I go to the gym everyday for at least 3 to 4 hours. My day starts at 3am and ends at 11pm sometimes. I am not complaining it is just what it is. I am lucky and grateful that I have a job and a part time job, which allows me a membership to the gym.

One of my responsibilities as the School Arts Liaison is that I am in charge of the stage design for our school plays. And I like to go all out for my students. I build props and scenery and backdrops for the shows plus I get to mount it. For this last show the play was Bullies Anonymous so I had to build a “Bullyometer “ and it was fun. The kids loved it, a second grader came up to me and said. “Mr. Colon I love your work. And it is true we need to take care of this bully problem we have in our school.” The sad part about it, is that he is one of the bullies that we are so concerned with, only he is on denial. I love my school and my children, as an artist it is a great place to work and to be creative.

Which brings me to my next topic I haven’t being able to blog, as much as I want to. However the other night, It was late at nite and I was not able to sleep, so I stopped by Joy’s Babble on and she had this wonderful entry about a red wagon trivia. It was so nice to hear her story and to share mine with her. The experience was a million dollars worth .

Any suggestions anyone for my predicament.

Looking for my Gym Bag

Lately, I started back to work and I am working on an after school program. But I tell you not, most of my time afterwards besides traveling is spent at the gym. On Saturday alone I put 4 hours of work out. I am really enjoying the experience. I used to be real big and I have lost twice my size, so going to the gym is a treat for me, cause there was a time I could not even move. One of the most amazing things about the experience is that I am getting to know my body in ways I never new it was possible. It is also helping me a lot with my incredible back pain.

I give you an example, because of having had so much weight for so many years I have real strong legs, I have wrestler’s calves. My legs are awesome. So I do not exercise them, like if I have worked my legs in this last year 3 times that has been it. Most of my work out routine goes to my abdominals, I want my bear belly hard as a rock, and its getting there. Well anyway, on Sunday I was having a real hard time working out, like my mind was mostly on the fact that it was 1pm and I had not even started the weekly review post.

So any how, I remember one thing that my 21 year old physical trainer mentioned to me, which was that your muscular body is all interconnected. I heard what he said, but it did not comprehend what he meant. So out of the blue, since I was having a hard time with my arms, I decided to work on my legs to keep the focus away from feeling defeated. So as I am working my legs I noticed that my spinal cord was expanding. In response to the experience, I decided to take the training to a maximum level. And I put 360 lbs of weight on one of the presses, and when I lifted them I felt this electricity running through my body that it was unbelievable. When I got up from the press, as I was standing the lower back were I have always felt the worst horrible pain imaginable, moved, it expanded. I felt it when it grew. It was amazing I never new that my leg muscles had anything to do with my lower back expansion. The feeling was so incredible that it was sort of spiritual. I felt so connected to a higher purpose at that moment. This my be kind of shallow of me, but I am learning to appreciate my life in ways that I have never done before. You can call me naïve, but trust me when I say, on those few moments of victory I feel wholesome. And this has nothing to do with the 360lbs, this has to do with the fact that I am trusting my self to take chances, and in the process small revelations emerge. So I continued working my legs, and I heard another spinal segment move right around the lumbar curvature. It was a pretty emotional joyful moment. Once I was done with my legs I went back to my arms and the experience was more pleasant.

Yesterday I got home around 6 o’clock after being up since 5am. So I decided to head to the gym. I knew that I was feeling out of it, but I was avoiding the couch; I do not want to keep having a long term relationship with it. When I got to the gym I changed my clothes and placed all my belongings on the locker. Around 8:30 after working on my upper back and my abs I decided that it was time to head home. So I went to my locker and first I could not find were my locker was for some reason where I thought that I have left my stuff it was not there, so I finally find it and when I opened it, everything was gone. My gym bag, my boots, my pants, my wallet, my $500.00 glasses, my undies, my keys, everything. I had to do a police report. So when I got home, I mentioned to hubby and he got real angry. I think he felt the way that I was supposed to feel. So he was reacting in my favor of course. But I don’t think that I was that angry. Notice?, I have not even curse. The reason for this is that I am having such a great experience in my gym that I refuse to let this experience tarnish my accomplishments. In three weeks I have lost 10 lbs. But most of the gain that I’m encountering is in terms of muscle mass. My muscles are looking nice. I have a long way to go, but my ideal is to enroll on a kick boxing class by next summer. I want to get physically violent with someone I do not know. I know I am going to get some kicks on my rips and possibly my face, but I hope to come back strong. Woooofff. I am all for it.

Update on my way to the Motor Vehicle Department I stopped by the gym, cause I refused to believe that someone had walk out of that building which is vast ,with my belongings. I knew that they have stole my wallet, and my money but my boots and my lumber jacket? I am not that trendy. Well my glasses maybe. So I went back and did another run through the place and I found my stuff my wallet had money missing but my glasses were there alone with my jacket my pants. I am so happy. My personal trainer told me that things like that has happened at the gym. I am happy. Thank you all again.

Understanding my dyslexia the early years

When I was in elementary school I was always considered a slow learner, in the bottom two classes. I was never like my older brother who was always charming my parents with a’s and b+’s. All the teachers had the same thing to say about me, he does not work hard enough, plus he is a hand full, incapable of sitting still. Reading was a nightmare for me. I was taught to read using a Vassal Model for reading instruction. Which had sentences like Run Tito run, and Tito loves Mota. Tito plays with his ball. Tito plays with Rosa. I used to have a secret cruch for Tito. But then there were far more complex sentences like. Rosa visits her grandmother. By then I was lost. For the light of me I could not register what the words meant. Even though it was really simple, reading sentences, I could not get reading. This is of course my first grade experience.

It was not until 7th grade that a biology teacher caught on to the fact that I did not know how to read. How did I make it to 7th grade without reading comprehension? By cheating, and lying my way out of tests exams and by listening very carefully. So I was good at telling stories. But with all the negative feed back that I was getting, most of my interaction with teachers meant that I was distracting the students, and disrupting the classes, I was always acting out. How did she find out? She used to like me a lot and during lunchtime she will often buy lunch for me from a restaurant near the school and we will eat together and we will have really smart conversations. She was gorgeous too, so I used to feel good about hanging out with her. One day in preparation for her after lunch class, she had asked me to read the newspaper for her, while she was writing on the black board. I started reading the paper, phonetically decoding word by word. Here I am putting my best effort to read the paper, when I noticed that she was growing more and more impatient with me, to the point that she said. “Enough” looking, very hasty at me, “my god you really do not know how to read.” I did not get angry with her, I just felt a sense of relief that someone had noticed that I could not get reading. Words meant nothing to me unless I hear them. The following day she brought with her a bunch of fairy tales (I wonder now if those Fairy tales had something to do with my being queer nowadays, lol), from her preschooler daughter at home. She asked me to decode the first word and I did which was long, then the second world and I did which was Time then the third word, which was ago. And she told me what does that mean. I will reply to her well that this is something that happened way back. She helped me make the transition from understanding syllables, to understanding words, to understanding sentences, to understanding stories. I remember like if it was yesterday, the first book had this beautiful illustration with this gorgeous beautiful princess that was taken away from her father to a land where a nasty witch had her imprisoned. Then this old lady came by and gave her three chicks and told her that if she ever wanted to go back to her father all she needed to do was to feed the chicks some grains of corn while the nasty witch was eating her meal. So when the evil nasty witch came back home and sat down to eat her supper, the princess decided to feed the chicks some kennels of corn. The chicks grew up to be three knights brothers, that slaughtered the witch. The princess married the oldest of the three brothers; he was a hunk.

I believe that the difference between the simple language in the fairy tale, versus the language of the Vassal Reading books, is that the fairy tale story was told as if someone was actually talking. Unlike the Vassar reader, with its emphasis on phonetics, the attention was given to sound production. Yet I never heard anyone talk Tito run to your ball, or Tito plays and plays. Who talks like that? Not even the first graders in my school, we had stories, wonderful stories to tell. To read about a boy that loves a cat, it was meaningless to me. So I could not make a connection between letters and language, or even between sounds and language. I think that I could have been one of those students, that whole language approach and direct book immersion would have been more beneficial. After my biology teacher intervention, I learned to read but not without some big comprehension problems.

When I was in art school. I remember coming across a chair with a broken leg and immediately felt the need to create something with it. In the chair I painted a woman with a broken leg and on a canvas I painted a chair with a broken leg. When I exhibited the piece I got in so much trouble because, I was considered misogynistic by some of my fellow students. But of all the horrible comments that I received the worst was from the professor himself. When he saw the woman that I had painted, his remark was: “she is too fat to be considered an element of beauty.” I desisted from explaining myself because I really could not understand their lack of tolerance. Even though I still have the piece save some where, I have not thought about that experience until recently, when I came across Ms. Landmine Cambodia. Right away I felt in love with the concept, the project, and the artwork produced. However I became very disappointed to hear that the project was cancelled in Cambodia because according to the government, the event would damage "the dignity and honor of our disabled, especially women". The way the project works, is that contestants have a picture taken on a by a professional photographer, pretty much following the guidelines of fashion photography. The pictures then are presented on the Internet, and the viewers pick their favorite picture. The winning contestant then receives a prosthetic limb and some cash reward, but the significance and main objective of the project is to raise awareness on the devastating effects of landmines. The objection of a classmate of mine when I exhibited the work was that things like pageants are a dehumanizing experience for women. What do you think is Ms. Landmine a dehumanizing experience for women victims of landmine?

Is NPR really a talk of the nation? I enjoy a good radio show. I commute for almost an hour an a half everyday, so I like NPR because it is intelligent radioing. Having said that. i used to Notice their skew affiliation in favor of the conservative agenda. And a year ago I was thinking well if I were them I will probably watch what I said carefully so that my funds will keep coming. So when the new administration happened, I thought, this is cool; I will now get a more diversified pointsview in NPR. Yet I am still waiting. The other day I was listening how they were covering some of the key factors in the Health care debate. And again I felt as though nothing have changed from the last administration. I feel as though they are hyper critical of Obama, a big contrast to how they used to react to the Bush Regime. What do you Think?

Why my zero tolerance for closeted sanitize bedroom language?

This post is emotionally charged because it has caused me to revisit years of battling homophobia, and in particular my relationship with the closet. It was also challenging because as a dyslexic man, I am still struggling with meaning significance and language.

This flaming preoccupation with the language of sexuality, manifested right after reflecting on a comment that I left on another blogger column in relation to the definition of top. “I like fucking, and eating ass.. “. After leaving the comment: and going back to read it I had a rickety sensation that reminded me of my high school closeted days, in which I could not share openly my true affections with those around me, out of fear of being judge or ignored.

So of course I had to examine the meaning behind my comment in relation to the public space in which it happened. The familiar, “what the hell happened here?” syndrome manifested.

Yet after going back to my original statement, I could not see anything wrong with it, other that “It” was posted on a blog, other than my own. The old voice; “You shouldn’t have said that in someone else’s site. That was for your personal space only,” was louder than ever. Until that instant, I wasn’t able to recognize the construct of the closet as a silencing tool.
Luckily for me I’m a privilege homo, that gained my sexually and culturally awareness during the queer struggles of the eighties in NYC. A knowledge, that also gave me full understanding that I am capable of fighting back, fighting big and fighting loud; like Ms. Happy Face from the Pyramid club would used say to me, “listen one or more can jump you, but you can always keep the head of one of them as a souvenir.”

Why the fighting? Well because the established religion, the government, the schools, the hospitals, the prison and all their affiliated structures do a great jog, censoring and criminalizing my queer existence. According to the “canons”, I am supposed to be less, not only because I love men, but because I engage in sexual acts with them, and because I often choose to express my affections publicly? In a hetero normative culture, two men fighting each other is a sport, two men being affectionate with one another, is a crime, a sin, an illness. And for that they created the closet in which I was supposed to be kept, if I wanted to co-exist in their “straight” world. And AIDS gave them a perfect reason to hate the faggots. Regan O’connor, Bush, Guiliani were very vocal in condemning my life style. Their actions were not only political strategies, they were design to eradicate every thing queer, when were less prompt to fight back, when Our friends and family where dying by hospital neglect and misinformation.

The fallowing are samples of how the closet was intended to function.

a) It limited my abilities to engage in queer sex, since the space was basically restricted to one(me). In other words if I were to have sex with someone it had to happen in a hidden place, none public, dark and behind close doors with no lights. The public kissing, holding hands, dating, wedding bells was for the norm. We were supposed to be confined to ourselves, Oh and with Aids the protocols had to include the familiar Positive Or Negative check mark, and the exchange of condom. Under those circumstances finding a fuck body was almost impossible imagine striving to develop meaningful relationships? For that I was better of masturbating, and frankly by the end, the hand jobs were getting boring.

b) The closet served as a silencing conduit, in where, if I were to screamed no one will listen, it had a sealed door. To the hospital or the clinic, it was far more better that I would keep my affections a secrets, they needed to restrict my ability to express my emotion. And it was implemented with the language of the hospital in which my emotions if ever expresses had to be expressed to the Therapist or the doctor with sanitized language like copulating, anilingus, French passive, French aggressive. For the clinic words like fucking, eating ass, rimming, are the language of the uneducated, the crass, the uncivilized, the perverted the unhealthy. Yet imagine having sex using words like, copulate my anal opening. Years of closeted experience have assisted me to realized that deep inside, I am a raving Rumba queen, and screaming is not only part of my existence, it helps me to fight back, by deterring my opponents, by frightening them and by basically planting flags to let them know I am here, now deal with it.

c) The closet also served as an instrument for invisibility, in which I had to remain hidden, because any projection of my queer self was a sign of provocation on my part. Public outcry and violence was professed by the “norm” as defending their values, when ever expressing their hate for anything queer. I had no police protection, no hospital consideration, no educational empathy, and if I dare to physically express my sexual identity I was targeted as deviant, faggot, pervert, condemned, insane, and criminal. My response was a chameleonic survival strategy; On Mondays, militant punk, basic black with emphasis on Knee high combat boots, Tuesdays and Wednesday was for my androgynous dark, consisting of a basic female garment with a shave head, heavy on the black with religious accessories, and either lipstick, nail polish, or eye liner. On Thursdays that was my Club Kid Glam rich in neon colors, always a hat with some sort of designed label accent, thanks to the 42nd St Salvation Army, imagine obtaining a Bill Blass, Dona Karan, Versace shirt for pennies? Fridays and Saturdays cruising gear, basic ragged 501s with white T-shirts, black work boots and a leather motorcycle jacket, Sundays Urban Sandinista look, camouflage green, chinos and a barrette, of course unshaved for the warrior in me. You see staying hidden was impossible for the homo fabulous me.
Why I did it and still do it, because I was fucking tire of getting public banged, while seeing my queer family died, in the worst dehumanizing manner, while listening to the media, the church and the politicians refer to me or people like me, as the others, the radicals, the perverts. I was tire of their mischaracterization. In other words, I had to come out, to confront them and to let them know that the closet is not an option and that I am here to fight back with or without AIDS.

I am very excited that one of my newest followers is also the head editor for AmbienteGt, which is an electronic magazine dedicated to Queer Arts and politics in Spain. As an artist I seldom come across artworks where I do a double take, but in the case of German Gomez’ work I had to. To me he does with photography what Francis Bacon does with painting. My only concern is that I want to see more of German Gomez’s work, three samples is not enough for the artist in me. I feel so inspired that I am heading for my camera. This one is new to me. As some of you might know, I am a Roman Catholic survivor. And while I respect others peoples freedom of religion, when it comes to the catholic church I run the other way. But on this one I give them props. A group called Catholics for Marriage equality issued the following statement.

"Catholics for Marriage Equality calls on its members and all Catholics who share our support for marriage equality to take two peaceful but effective actions in our parishes this Sunday so that the diocese will know it is not speaking for all faithful Catholics."

Just when you thought that being Queer is rough, think about, Joao Francisco do Santos an inspiring, reaffirming, and up lifting figure capable of surviving racial and class discrimination during the 1920’s in Brazil. He was admired and appreciated by his local community and a legendary carnival celebrity. A queer with no gender alliances, he was capable of switching from butch to femme at his own discretion. A nonconformist with a family life composed of two prostitutes and an adopted baby. He had little reverence for the authorities or establishment, to point of laughing at his abilities to penetrate policemen. Over all, the entire movie with its graphic love making scenes and the compelling landscape of the times, takes you into a world where you feel present, enraged, yet empowered to fight back.

In an Post at Pam’s House Blend, A Painful Moment Of Cultural Insensitivity Towards Trans People On MTV's America's Best Dance Crew by: Autumn Sandeen brings out the cultural insensibility of the Hostess Lil’Mama when judging Leiomy. Watch the video

And I agree with her. Starting with her criticism of Vogue Evolution, Lil'Mama have no grounds to come out like that. To me she sounded, like she wanted to snatch the spot light back to herself. I even think that she was jealous of Leiomy, because, for Leiomy, to be able to step over her team mates, in high heels mind you, and not to cause serious damage, flip on mid-air and them land with a twist and smile, only some one who knows danger close are personal can dare to do that. It will be interesting to see Lil’Mama performance career to see if she can pull something like that herself. That performance was off the hook. To be able to transform a ballywood choreography, and bring contemporary vogueing to the mixed, the pressure along would had driven me crazy to the point of breaking out, and yet Leiomy came out, she played hard and she rocked it.

But Lil’ Mama hating did not ended there, it went on to sensationalized a life experience that Lil’ Mama knows nothing about. Her statements

1)“Leiomy, your behavior. Come on. It's unacceptable. I just feel that you always have to remember your truth.” I did not see in any shape, way, or form Leiomy’s denial of her identity. You will asked someone to remember their truth self when that someone is in denial of self; And that is not Leiomy.

2)“ You were born a man, and you are becoming a woman. If you're going to become a woman, act like a lady.” Lil’Mama fixation with Leiomy process is more a reflection of her lack of tolerance for Leiomy’s process than it is Leiomy’s inability to act as a woman. How much Woman can you get than Leiomy? For a minute there this comment sounded more like my pussy is real and yours is not. Let me remind you about pussy.

3)“ Don't be a bird, like "oh my god, I'm not doing this.” Now Leiomy according to Lil’Mama went from being human to an animal. What the fuck is that suppose to mean, that we humans do not make mistakes, or change our minds, or act confuse at times?

4)“ You know what I'm saying, it gets too crazy, and it gets confusing. You're doing this for America. Even though you're the face for transgenders, you're the face for America right now with this group, and it's not about anybody else, it's about y'all. So do it for the team." Lil’Mama sounded more like careful you acting too much like yourself, will send TV audiences to a non-comfortable zone. Lil’Mama comments sounded to me like when my mother asked me not to act queer when coming out of the closet.

In all, Lil’Mama sounded more like she is the one with the tolerance problem. I wonder if she would have said the same thing to a ciswomen. You acted like a bird because you acted confused and did not wanted to play. I wonder if she would have reminded the ciswomen to act like a lady for hating the choreography? But then again, it is possible cause Lil’Mama comments were dimwitted at worst.

I love to hit my computer to greet and to connect with my hubby Allan, with Ms. Kitty, withWonder Man, Bob, and so many others that are part of an interesting net of diversified points of opinions. However when it comes to political discourse, I love Pam's House Blend. The name itself, summarizes the effect the online magazine has on my spirit, since I like to read it first thing in the morning, while feasting on a Large Capuccino, from Dunkin Doughnuts. It makes me proud that it is also a Woman of Color and a Lesbian the chief editor of the magazine. Her concerns, and her speediness to respond to issues affecting the reality based communities is extraordinary. I just needed to get this out of my chest. Better than the Huffington Post and THE DAILY BEAST, Pam’s House Blend do deliver a wake up call.

As I have already addressed, I have no problem viewing myself as “Raro/queer.” Yet after a series of impersonations, including voyaging into the androgynous zone, lately I am enjoying the Male, working class, hipper description of me. I love the appeal and the salaciousness of the look. I enjoy the gym, the sweet and the garments of the manifestation. Yet I am in no way in favor of the exclusive muscle construct on public domain. Hey if that is your thing, fine with me, it is just that I do not think it should monopolize the queer or LGBTGTS agenda. But back to my point, I feel as though I am a male to male transvestite. One of the recurring trends after the collapsed of The Third Reich, is the cultural contention that most Germans were unaware of the concentration camps. That they did not know that this was happening to the Jews, or to those arrested by the Nazis. In a recent movie documenting an art exhibition of the Holocaust War in Germany, the most fervent argument was that not all soldiers were killers themselves, that most of them were just following orders. Mind you most of the exhibition was about the pictures that the soldiers themselves took in front of the corpses, but we are supposed to believe that they were just following orders. Even Neo-Nazis were shown up protesting the Art exhibition claiming that their fathers and grand parents were being demonized by the exhibition. The trend as I see, it is one of denial of the facts, and of intolerance for the revision of any argument. How will anyone fight against Xenophobia, when the Xenophobics themselves do not see anything wrong with there hateful message. These images of Roseanne Barr dressed as Hitler, as first shown in That Oven Feelin' are meant to challenge power perception and fear mongering myths so much circulating nowadays. By Roaseanne, a Jewish woman herself dressed as a Hitler, she reversed the role of the victim by Bringing to the forefront, that yes the Holocaust did happen, and that she is prepare to fight back not with fear but with parody against its masculine power archetype. She knows that the fight that is being presented nowadays is a cultural one, and its is basically being presented in the form of fear mongering antics, in which the presentation of swastikas are both used to intimidate and to mischaracterized history and politics.

I am so used to politically self define myself as queer, without really giving too much thought to the concept itself. Coming out in NYC during the 80’s, right in the mists of the AIDS epidemic, the word gay had very little relevance. I was not a priviledge white male, with a business nor a condo in the village and a share in Fire Island. I was not interested in muscle guys with their fitted jeans and their polo shirts, in other words the poster transcripts that monopolized the archetypical gay male construct after stone wall; the “American normalized opposition to heterosexual ideals.” I was a latino, working class, City college student, with a C average, who fancied the working drag queens in the early hours by the piers, with lots of anger against my Roman Catholic hostage days, and with an incredible mistrust for anything branded “home made.” I was a Pyramid Club regular that wore combat boots and black tube skirts with white t-shirts to dinner parties to disrupt, displeased, and amuse my self out of boredom. I was not interested in the passive aggressive fluid transmission of lust, but more into the aggressive to aggressive dynamics of power play and danger. So in recently looking for queer conversation about contemporary politics I came a cross an article at the Independent Gay Forum that caught my attention. The article Young, Out, and Gay-Not Queer by James Kirchick proclaims that with the usage of queer, gays are at the loosing end.

While Kirchick does not object to the term as used by “Oxford English Dictionary”, referencing queer as to that which is “strange, odd, peculiar, eccentric, in appearance or character, (interesting enough, Oxford had to be introduced somewhere in there to make it more credible) he has “a problem when gay activists and certain academics use the word in an affirming sense to describe gay people.” To him there is nothing “strange, odd or peculiar” about homosexuality, which has existed, arguably, for nearly as long as human history itself. The word “gay” to him is save enough to self identify yourself.

Totally missing the point that within queer politics, the concept of homosexuality is always mapped in opposition to the heterosexual established one. Thus configuring “homos” as only fucking same sex, while “heteros” as the norm that only fucks the opposite sex. Missing the point that heterosexuals, and homosexuals are also promoted diagnosis, and that those terms relinquish all kinds of affections into a male female, good evil, right wrong trap. So to be ok with gay, and homosexual and not with queer, is basically to say that he wants to be passing as only an American male, that beds other American males but that does not want anyone invading his bed game. Therefore by rejecting the term "queer", he wants to be seen as controversially disengaged from any political narrative. To him the term queer disrupts his sense of normalcy.

In one sentence, to Kirchick, gay = Ok, Queer = evil + dangerous. It is to say fuck all of you that happen to be transgender, transsexual, bisexual, or anything out of the normative fixation. Your lives should be the ones interrogated, searched, and objected too, not his. The next thing on this dude agenda is a run in a campaign trail with republicans that equates homosexuals to bestiality. Just a warning, the "norm" that he is so much siding with, is also monopolizing the term "gay" that he is so comfortable prescribing to. But I guess he is OK with the trap.

I promised Ms. Kitty at The Queer Whisperer not to talk about Sarah Palin anymore, but on this one I can not stay quiet. Pay Pay as Ms. Kitty calls her, once again shows not only her ignorance, but her greedy malice at best.

Here she is on her resignation speech as Alaskan governor warning the media to leave her family out of the discourse, yet she uses her own down syndrome son to catch in, for her own political and financial gain. Her heinous remark is another of her maneuvers to center stage herself for some kind of political spotlight.

The sad part about it, is that I really do not think that she gives a shit about her own down syndrome son, her family, nor anyone else that does serve a motive in her political game. If anyone thinks that her imbecile stance translate into anything good for women, children, family, and her own political allies, think again. Behind her deceptiveness is her own greed.

It is amazing in reading her own face book page, that she can actually think that she is speaking for millions of down syndrome children in this country with out a voice, parents or health care. How will she propose a health care plan for any one of them without one. Will her health care insurers friends come to the rescue of them? Or how about the working mothers, with down syndrome children, is her filthy wealthy self, speaking for any of them?

To equate the health care reform as now been presented, to a death panel is not only aim at distracting the dialogue but to infringe on it a demonizing overtone to cast Obama into a fascist zone. I really hope that more people will come after her.

With lots of aprehensions though cause, I'm unruly at best and undiscipline when it comes to writing. But given the nature of things right now and how drastically conservative everything is becoming, I feel I have no other choice but to at least try to tackle some of the shit that is going on right now.
